We are the Aboriginal Disabled Self Help Group.
To ensure that the needs of Aboriginal persons with disabilities
are being met.
Founded in August 1996, to deal specifically with the issues of
Aboriginal people with disabilities

The People:
The Aboriginal Disabled Self Help Group is unique consisting of
Aboriginal people with disabilities, providing advice and
consultation services to the Centre for Aboriginal Human Resource
Development Inc. and the Aboriginal People with Disabilities Program (a
program offering service in the area of employment,
education, and training. The group is taking a leadership role in
bringing greater awareness to the needs of Aboriginal people with
disabilities within Winnipeg.
What we do:
- The group strives for improved services for Aboriginal people
with disabilities
- To provide culturally appropriate services to include,
benefit and improve the quality of life for Aboriginal people
with disabilities
- To work cooperatively with both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal
agencies and all levels of government to address the needs of
Aboriginal people with disabilities

How do we do it:
By conducting information and awareness sessions with groups,
agencies and organizations within Winnipeg. We will enhance the
profile of the Aboriginal Disabled Self Help Group and the
Aboriginal People with Disabilities Program. The increased
community profile will enable the Aboriginal Disables Self Help
Group to advocate, support, and strive toward better services for
the Aboriginal people with disabilities in Winnipeg.
The Aboriginal Disabled Self help Group is an independent,
non-political, non-profit group in good standing, incorporated in
September 1996.
